Currently, there is a comfortable and perfectly passable path that starts from the town and is less than a kilometer long. During the ascent, we can admire the plain of the Campiña and the multitude of villages that can be found there: Casas de Reina, Llerena, Berlanga, Ahillones, Azuaga... Undoubtedly, the fortress is the most prominent feature in this area of the Campiña. Of Arab origin, it reuses previous construction elements, which show the antiquity of the occupation of the so-called Castle Hill. Evidence of this is the Roman granite ashlars that reinforce the corners of one of the towers, the 'ashlar tower', located in the eastern area of the fortress. The fortress is located at an altitude of 825 meters and has 15 rectangular towers connected by 2-meter thick tapial walls. The north and west flanks are protected by two albarrana towers, one of which is possibly octagonal on a square base.
