Talking about transhumance means discussing the journey that shepherds undertook, with their packed lunchboxes, accompanying their flocks each year in search of the best pastures on the peninsula. Sheep, cows, and goats crossed through the Royal Sheep Tracks extensive distances, twice a year marked by the seasons. Today, although one might think it is an almost extinct activity, nothing could be further from the truth. Far from declining, in recent years it has gained some relevance, now feeling like an activity that is part of the Cultural Heritage of Spain. Transhumance, more than ever, is an attraction, a tradition, and in Valverde de Leganés, also a reason for celebration, since in this municipality ends the Western Soriano Royal Cattle Track, one of the main livestock routes that connects the lands of Valverde with the city of Soria through 700 kilometers diagonally. On the third weekend of May, Valverde de Leganés dresses up for a festival and opens its doors to all visitors who want to immerse themselves in the experience of living transhumance from within and enjoy its artisan cheese fair with tapas at popular prices. Valverde offers a wide range of activities for residents and visitors, among which stand out tastings, food shows, workshops, and an interesting Round Table that will feature prominent personalities from the livestock world. On Sunday morning, do not miss the transhumant route that will begin with the traditional shepherd's breakfast, featuring good Extremaduran migas. But that's not all, as in any great fair, it will also have a large multisectoral market where in addition to the most select cheeses from all over Spain, you can find a variety of crafts and enjoy in its canteens. Be sure to try the craft beers and grilled lamb. And as no party is complete without music, you will also find concerts and musical performances completely free of charge.
