Declared a National Tourist Interest Festival, the Holy Week in Badajoz features images of great historical and artistic value, some of which date back to the 16th century. The San Roque neighborhood hosts the Palm Sunday procession of La Borriquita to kick off a week full of religious fervor. As they pass by the Badajoz Cathedral, the processions enter the official route, making Plaza de España a popular spot for many to view the floats. Another significant moment in Holy Week occurs on Maundy Thursday, when the Virgin of Solitude, the city's patron saint, is processed from her hermitage and also parades through the streets of the Old Town on Good Friday. The departure of several penance stations in the early hours of Wednesday and Thursday of Holy Week is another magical moment of Badajoz's Holy Week, where silence and fervor take over the night and the beautiful corners through which the processional parades pass. The procession of the Arrest, which starts from the church of La Concepción and performs its Stations of the Cross in Plaza Alta, is particularly striking.
