Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, and Good Friday are very special days in Oliva de la Frontera. The entire town participates in the Living Passion, a Festival of National Tourist Interest, which depicts the last days of Jesus' life. The residents of Oliva de la Frontera actively participate as actors and extras. The performance begins with the Last Supper at the doors of the Church of San Marcos Evangelista. From there, they move to the Plaza de España, where the events in the Garden of Gethsemane are depicted. Jesus is arrested and they move to the Sandrín, located in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. It is there that the trial of Jesus takes place. Jesus, carrying the cross, walks through the streets of Oliva de la Frontera, helped by Simon of Cyrene and followed by the townspeople, as well as Roman soldiers on horseback and on foot, meeting Veronica, who wipes his face, leaving it imprinted on the cloth. The performance concludes with the Crucifixion of Jesus and his descent from the cross, to be taken to the tomb, located in the Sanctuary of the Church of San Marcos Evangelista. The Living Passion is a way to experience the faith and religious fervor of Holy Week while touring the streets and emblematic places of the town.
