The route that leads to the Hermitage of Piedra Escrita, better known as Senda de los Barrancos, is surrounded by a steppe landscape characterized by numerous rock formations known as "dog's teeth", formed by slates. This route is taken every year on Easter Monday by the inhabitants of the town of Campanario to celebrate the "Day of Piedra Escrita", a pilgrimage in honor of the patron virgin of the La Serena region. This festival has been declared a Regional Tourist Interest Festival.
