The Rural Walk of the Duchy of Feria mostly takes place in the town of Feria, declared a Historic-Artistic Ensemble. A very important point of our route will be the Castle, awarded the title of 'best corner of Extremadura 2017', where we can visit the Interpretation Center of the Lordship of Feria, located inside, and enjoy the magnificent panoramic views of the old Lordship of Feria.
We will start the Rural Walk at the Porticoed Square next to the Casa del Concejo and the Church of San Bartolomé, and head towards Feria Castle through Mesones Street, where we find the Corner of the Cross. On the way to the Castle, we will leave the hermitage of La Candelaria to our left.
Feria Castle was built in 1460 by Don Lorenzo Suárez de Figueroa (1st Count of Feria). The Keep stands out with a height of 40 meters and a square shape of 18 meters on each side. It is of military Gothic style with rounded angles. It has four levels with Gothic windows and a Gothic-style entrance influenced by Manueline Portuguese architecture, where the shield of the House of Feria, the fig leaf, is located.
After visiting the Castle, its interpretation center, and enjoying the panoramic views, we will descend towards the urban area of Feria through olive fields and entering through the hermitage of Los Mártires, and finish at the Porticoed Square.
