This "Rural Walk" is intended to be one-way only, due to its length. For experienced or physically fit individuals, it can be done as a round trip, as despite its length, it is very comfortable to complete.
We will start from the Ham Museum of Monesterio, a place where we can learn about the emblematic product of the locality: the Iberian acorn-fed ham.
We will delve into the town through its most typical streets, until we reach the Church of San Pedro, in Gothic-Mudejar and Renaissance style, dating from the 15th century. In this church, we can observe a unique architecture featuring a ribbed vault and the main altar's altarpiece, as well as its square tower topped with semicircular arches where the bell tower is located.
As we leave the town in the direction of the Monastery of Tentudía, the landscape we will enjoy is very diverse; oak groves, cork oak groves mainly used for pig farming, woody crops such as olive groves, fig orchards, almond groves, vineyards, etc. We will also encounter coniferous forests and reforestation areas, mixing with native oak forests. In some sections up to the Monastery of Tentudía, we will find fields dedicated to intensive and extensive farming, pasture, and scrubland.
Throughout the stretch from the town to the Monastery, we will enjoy the unparalleled views offered by the Sierra de Tentudía.
The Monastery of Tentudía offers us impressive views from its numerous viewpoints. The hermitage of Santa María de Tudía dates from the early 13th century to the early 16th century when Pope Leo X declared it a Monastery. Inside, the altarpiece by Niculoso Pisano and the Mudejar-style cloister are some of the most important elements we can visit.
