This 'Rural Walk' will have a route of 11.14 kilometers, the trail runs between the municipalities of Peñalsordo and Capilla, on the Sierra del Palenque, where we will combine cultural heritage, popular heritage, nature, and landscape.
The starting point will be in the town of Peñalsordo, at the 'Octava del Corpus' Museum, in honor of a festival that has been celebrated since the 16th century, currently declared of regional and national tourist interest. Crossing the town in a southerly direction, we head to the Sierra de Palenque, where we will be able to delight in some of the best views of landscapes and nature along the entire planned route. Here we will see traditional orchards, rockroses, and holm oak groves, with all the fauna that accompanies this type of vegetation.
During the ascent to the Sierra de Palenque, we will come across the Castle of Capilla, built on a cliff, with an irregular polygonal structure to adapt to the rugged terrain.
Next, we enter the town of Capilla, where we will visit the church of Santiago Apóstol, a Mudejar work declared of historical and artistic interest. It was possibly a mosque in its origin, although it was later converted into a Christian temple in the 14th century.
Continuing the path towards Peñalsordo, numerous birds of great interest can be spotted, such as black storks, vultures, goldfinches, Bonelli's eagles, peregrine falcons, etc. The flora that we will also encounter is diverse, with a predominance of scrubland and cork oak trees.
Finally, we will arrive at the town of Peñalsordo.
