The Ecofluvial Corridor "Transboundary Ardila River" is located near the town of Valencia del Mombuey, situated within the Sierra Suroeste region of the province of Badajoz.
The Ardila River belongs to the river basin of the Guadiana River. The Ardila River is the main watercourse of the corridor, to which the Zaos stream, a tributary of the Ardila, is added. The Ardila originates in the Tentudía Monastery, at an altitude of 1,100 meters, and flows into the Guadiana River (Portugal) at an altitude of 95 meters. The Transnational Ardila has its own basin, covering an area of 1043 km2, crossing Valencia del Mombuey to the south of the municipal area, simultaneously separating and connecting Spain and Portugal.
To further explore and enjoy the route, linked to this Ecofluvial Corridor, we find the Environmental Interpretation Center, located next to the Hermitage of San Benito, and the Fauna Observatory, situated in the area known as "Cerro del Perdigón".
From Valencia del Mombuey, passing through pasturelands and remnants of civilizations such as the Visigothic, we reach the banks of the Ardila River (classified as an SCI), which serves as a natural border separating and connecting with our neighboring country, Portugal. We will follow its course where we can see numerous flour mills, then we will head towards the area of "las Brujas" with large pine forests around us, offering magnificent views of the Noudar Castle (Portugal). We will continue the route, being able to contemplate remnants of Celtic culture and passing through a beautiful area, where the Hermitage of San Benito (18th century) is located, until we reach the starting point.
