We start the route to the southwest of the town in Plaza del Loreto where we can find the Ermita de Loreto of Templar origin, the oldest construction in Higuera la Real. In front of this hermitage, there is a sculptural group known popularly as the 'Mamarracha', whose origins, dating, and meanings are enigmatic, although studies attribute it a funerary and protective character and date it back to the Roman period. In the square, you can appreciate the old public laundry, of great ethnographic value, and a watering place. There is also a beautiful fountain with twelve spouts topped at the top by a bronze figure of a musketeer, popularly known as the 'Fuente de Chiripa'.
We head south down Calle Colón until we reach Plaza de Toros where we will take the path to the cemetery on our right. We cross the road using the footbridge and continue leaving the cemetery on the right. We will advance approximately 100 meters along Camino de Linares until we reach a crossroads where we will make a 90º turn to the right and continue straight for almost 1 kilometer. We will reach an intersection of paths where in front of us there are several warehouses, and we will take the left path to continue straight and enter a spectacular pasture landscape that will accompany us throughout the journey. We will travel approximately 1.5 kilometers until we reach the next crossroads where we will continue straight and after advancing several meters, we come across another intersection where this time we will turn left to reach a small pond, from which the route gets its name.
There is the option to make this a circular route, so the return will be along the same path we have taken, but upon reaching the previous crossroads, instead of turning right (the path we came from), we will continue straight until we reach the Encinasola road (EX-301) where we will head east to return to Higuera la Real, but by road.
