Description
The route starts in the center of Alburquerque, next to the tourist office where you can get information about the Historic Ensemble formed by the Gothic-Jewish Quarter or 'Villa Adentro' and the Luna Castle (13th-15th century) that you should not miss visiting. It leaves the town among cork oaks on the slope of the Sierra de Santa Lucía to head down to the hermitage of La Ribera, where the Virgin of the Incarnation, patroness of Villar del Rey, is venerated, a town that is reached after crossing the Zapatón River. Returning on its route, it changes direction to the west to reach the border with Portugal, where you can pedal around the boundary markers that delimit the oldest border in Europe. From here, following the Gévora River through the cliffs of Higuela, it heads north to the vicinity of the sanctuary of Our Lady of Carrión, joining the BTT 3 route to head back to Alburquerque.
