The route begins at the Villarreal pier, on the banks of the Alqueva reservoir, where there are comprehensive tourist services to enjoy the nature activities offered by the local companies. It shares the Natural Path of the Guadiana along the reservoir banks, passing through holm oak trees that give way to an agricultural landscape of undulating plains with permanent irrigation to reach, in a gentle ascent, San Francisco de Olivenza, one of the six districts of Olivenza, heading south amidst cereal crops that define the landscape's color throughout the seasons. The route crosses this town, declared a Historical Ensemble, which is highly recommended to visit, before heading back to Villarreal amidst cultivated hills and patches of olive trees that succeed in a dehesa landscape, where it joins the Natural Path again to finally reach the pier.
