Church of Santa María de Torbeo |
The church of Torbeo is part of the late Romanesque period, with its origins in a Benedictine monastery from the 13th century. The temple retains its original layout, to which the sacristy was added in the 16th century and two side chapels in the 17th century. Also in the Romanesque style is the pointed triumphal arch with figurative capitals that gives access to the presbytery and the apse, consisting of a straight section covered with ribbed vaulting and a semicircular end covered with a barrel vault. On the exterior, the decoration stands out with half-pointed arches with checkered molding and capitals with zoomorphic decoration. Inside, the church houses a baptismal font dating back to the late 12th century, of large dimensions, made of granite, and featuring an inscription and geometric decorative elements.
