Collegiate Church of San Xoán or San Nicolás of Portomarín |
Dating back to the early 13th century, it is located on the Camino Francés to Santiago de Compostela. At present, it is not in its original location, as it had to be moved due to the construction of the Belesar reservoir in the mid-20th century. It is a fortress church with a single nave and a semicircular apse. The nave is covered with a pointed barrel vault and is illuminated by the presence of a rose window that opens over the triumphal arch leading to the apse. The main facade is crenellated at the top; it has a large pierced rose window and on the portal, the figure of the Pantocrator surrounded by the 24 elders of the Apocalypse playing their musical instruments. On the north wall, there is a representation of the Annunciation, and on the south, a figure with a chasuble and a mitre between two figures.
