The 'sinopias' are preparatory drawings in red ocher underneath the frescoes. The projection, preparation, and exhibition arrangement of the museum are due to Giovanna Piancastelli Politi, Gaetano Nencini, and Antonino Caleca. It is the largest collection of medieval drawings in the world.
