Sanctuary with the dignity of a Basilica since 1993, the Mare de Déu del Lledó is located at the end of the avenue of the same name at the point where it meets Caminàs, where a stone peiró stands. It is therefore located on the outskirts of the city, preceded by a large garden and tree-lined square.

According to tradition, it was in this place where the farmer Perot de Granyana found the image of the Virgin hidden under a stone slab at the foot of an almez tree while plowing the land with his oxen in 1366. Since then, the Mare de Déu del Lledó has been greatly venerated, especially in the huerta area of Castellón, and the destination of numerous pilgrimages. It was proclaimed the main patroness of the city in 1922 and solemnly crowned in 1924.
