In the ancient Rua da Carreira, currently known as Rua Condes de Avilez, stands Casa das Heras, a building reconstructed in 1803/04 by Prior Bonifácio Gomes de Carvalho, later acquired by José Maria da Fonseca Achaiolli, brother-in-law of the 3rd Count of Avilez. Its most notable feature is the original vegetal covering that adorns its main, front, and side facades. The long frontage presents a pleasant set of balconies with railings, which continue on the mansard balcony. It rises over two floors, with the ground floor housing two large rooms, a gate with direct access to the courtyard and garden, which would be the entrance for the employees, and the main entrance, with a stone staircase, leading to the noble floor where the other interconnected rooms were located. A peculiarity is its garden, separated from the house by Calçada do Castelo, with access via an arched staircase and connection to Tapada dos Condes de Avilez.
